I visited the Cobham Community Stores this morning to deliver a box of Aedos products to them.

The shop was set up by the local community because they want to have a local village shop.  It is owned and run by the community and partly funded by the lottery.

As you can see they stock all the things that you would want to have in your local shop like newspapers, fabulous bread, milk, groceries, vegetables and meat etc.  They stock a lot of locally produced food and products.

They shop is beautifully laid out and an absolute pleasure to visit.

I love food shopping and this is a great place to browse.  I hadn't gone to shop and still came home with a wonderful rustic loaf and pastries!

Now the Cobham Community Stores also stocks Aedos products.

Awards Success For Aedos

Awards Success For Aedos

We are absolutely delighted to announce that Aedos has achieved success in the FreeFrom Awards.  The awards are held in association with The Green Beauty Bible, the Allergy & FreeFree Show and Janey lee Grace.

The FreeFrom Skin Care Awards are designed to celebrate and encourage skin care manufacturers who create products that exclude as many as possible of the allergens, chemicals, fragrances and artificial additives associated with many of the skin and health problems which effect us in the 21st century - and which may appeal to those looking for purer or more natural cosmetics and products for their skin, including those with problem skin conditions.

Aedos entered three products into the awards in January.  We have just heard that all three have done amazingly well in the awards, against stiff competition including from internationally renowned companies such as Neals Yard Remedies.  Two products have been Commended and one has been shortlisted for the final.  We are so excited.  Wish us luck!

Our lovely Italian Bergamot & Grapefruit Hand & Body Balm, has been shortlisted for the final.

This is a traditional hand & body balm with organic Fairtrade shea butter from Akoma, healing calendula and local beeswax.  It provides a deeply moisturising boost to leave the skin feeling silky.  Italian bergamot and grapefruit essential oils are added for a fresh and uplifting scent.

Apart from choosing potential winners, the FreeFrom Skincare Awards judges seek out products that they feel are really good, well-made products that sit well in the natural or 'free from' skincare market, but which, given the really high overall standard of entries, they feel are not quite potential award-winners.  These products they 'Commend'.

The two products which received ‘Commended’ in the 2013 FreeFrom Awards are

This is a light and nourishing face oil with organic jojoba, evening primrose and rose oil. It is designed to nourish the skin and minimise the appearance of fine lines.

This luxurious bath oil disperses into the bath water to moisturise and soften your skin while the essential oils soothe your spirit.  Relaxing English lavender oil has been blended with Vetiver, known as the oil of tranquillity, and a touch of stress relieving Clary Sage.  Allow these delightful essential oils to relax body and mind ready for a good nights sleep.

Wish us luck in the finals in June!

We arrived around 9am at Bray Lake. It was a cool Sunday morning but we've raced on colder days this winter so it was a surprise to see the lake covered in a layer of silvery ice.  As we got there one of the motorboats was powering through the ice to break it up, and we could hear it cracking as it broke.

Bray Lake is a fantastic center for water sports located near Windsor.  They also stock a selection of the Aedos natural skincare products, including the lip balm and Sports Range.

We were at Bray Lake to take part in the Stand Up Paddleboarding races that are held there each month.  I went out early for a warm up before the racing started - at least it was a warm up apart from the feet!  I hadn't paddled on icy water before and it was quite strange.  Sometimes the paddle broke the ice, on others it slid across the ice unbalancing me a little.  A dragon boat with an eight man crew was at the lake to train.  I could hear the ice cracking in rhythm to the dragon boat paddles.

As the sun warmed the day the ice was largely melted and we started the races.  There is a good mix of riders racing ranging from sponsored riders from Rogue and Starboard to people that bimble along at the back like me.  The sport is very inclusive which I like a lot.  It doesn't matter what standard you are.  If you want to join in you are welcomed.

This time the racing was a little different as there were two one man outrigger canoes (OC1s) racing.  They were very pointy and quick.  To make it even more fun the eight man dragon boat raced too.  I assumed that the dragon boat would fly past everyone, given the eight man crew.  It was totally awesome to see Paul Simmonds from Starboard out in front and making it look like an easy win.  A really fun day paddleboarding and making new friends.  Huge thanks to Lindsay and Simon from Bray Lake for organising it.

Recycling In Action at Fortnum & Mason

Perfume dispensers at Fortnum & Mason

I was browsing the completely gorgeous displays in Fortnum & Mason.  Not just the cakes honestly!  I wasn't really thinking about things green and environmentally friendly, just enjoying how beautiful everything looked.

As I wandered in to the perfume department I came across a display that intrigued me.  It was the large ornate glass dispensers in the photo above.  When I asked what they were for I was told that the dispensers are for re-filling perfume bottles.  This is not a new initiative.  I was told that it is the French way and Fortnum & Mason having been re-filling perfume bottles in this way for around 100 years.

How absolutely wonderful!

I thought that this cushion was a little harsh as it was in the Mens' Grooming section but it made me laugh.  It didn't seem to go down quite so well in doors.  Not sure why............

It's Great To Share That Feel Good Feeling

It’s Great To Share That Feel Good Feeling

Here at Aedos we know that we’re not perfect but we're trying to do things the right way.

Take our shea butter which comes from Akoma.  It is 100% pure and 100% natural.  Better than that, it is also certified 100% organic by the Soil Association.  But best of all it is 100% Fairtrade.

The lovely people at Akoma give the farmers a fair deal for their shea butter.  Akoma are working with farmers in a poverty stricken area of Ghana and, and particularly the women in the community to empower them to create better lives for themselves.  Through the Akoma Co-operative they aim to improve the local community in a number of ways.  These range from employment opportunities and training to improving local facilities such as schools, libraries and sanitary conveniences.  For more information about the Akoma Co-operative please click here.

Shea butter is loved for its healing and nourishing effect on the skin.  We use it in our Sugar Scrubs and Hand & Body Balms and its one of the ingredients that make them so great to use.

So whether you are treating yourself or that someone special it’s great to share that feel good feeling.

Discover Aedos - Natural Organic Skincare

Aedos was born out my love of my love of herbs and essential oils.  I have been fascinated by herbs and essential oils for as long as I can remember. The therapeutic properties of herbs and essential oils amaze me.
This love of herbs and essential oils has led me to make skincare products and simple remedies for myself and my family over the years. Having seen the difference that essential oils could make I experimented with different oils and butters creating skincare products I love to use, from a sugar scrub with zesty uplifting Bergamot oil to bath salts to relieve aches and pains after a day in the garden.
The healing properties of essential oils work on many levels. Vetiver is known as the oil of tranquillity. On a physical level Vetiver is used in skincare as it is reputed to strengthen connective tissues and improve the elasticity of the skin. On an emotional level it is said to be beneficial for stress and insomnia and is especially good where physical, mental and emotional burnout cause exhaustion. So many people are ‘running on empty’ in today’s hectic lifestyle. This oil inspired the vetiver and lavender bath melts, to relax body and mind ready for a good nights sleep.
This passion for herbs has outgrown my kitchen and I now have a small workshop in the garden. The products that we make at Aedos have been born out of this love of herbs their healing properties. Aedos is about sharing this knowledge and love of herbs with others.
